Narrabeen North school community promotes the wearing of full school uniform by students at all times and is a reflection of the school values. It is expected that all students wear full school uniform each day and on all approved school outings. To prevent loss of items of clothing all uniforms should be labelled with your child's first initial and surname. There is a lost property area outside A Block (single dome) for any lost property.
To ensure protection from the sun, Narrabeen North Public School has a ‘No Hat, Play in the Shade' policy. This policy requires students to wear an approved school uniform hat when outdoors. Students without a uniform hat are required to remain in a supervised shaded area during outdoor activities. This policy is supported by the DoE and the NSW Cancer Council.

THE NEW UNIFORM WILL BE:
ALL SEASON
The new uniform is available to wear year round so students can choose suitable clothing for weather on any particular day.
PRACTICAL, COMFORTABLE, DURABLE
The fabrics chosen for each uniform piece aims to be functional enough for children to both be comfortable in the classroom and playing in the playground. Using the more modern fabrics will mean the uniforms will last longer and be easier to keep clean and tidy.
STREAMLINED AESTHETIC
By reducing the range of items on the uniform list, the school community will have a more cohesive and sharp look, increasing the sense of belonging and pride in being part of NNPS.
COST EFFECTIVE
We have worked hard to reduce the quantity of items required for each child.
Once the final design decisions are made, the uniform committee will evaluate and compare suppliers to ensure we secure the best quality at the most competitive prices.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHY ARE WE EVEN CHANGING THE UNIFORM?
The school uniform has not changed in many, many years. The survey (conducted Sep 2024) showed that there were many areas of the uniform that really needed to be updated or changed completely. There are more modern fabrics that will not only make the school community look better, but will be more comfortable for the students to wear. Looking around the playground, you can see many children wearing non-school uniform items (eg bike pants, leggings) as some of the current options do not provide a suitable fit or comfort level. Timing wise, it makes sense to update the uniform now that the new build is done to move to a sharp, more practical uniform.
WHEN WILL THIS BE IMPLEMENTED?
The aim is to have the new uniforms available for purchase from Term 4, 2025, with a long transition period of 2 and a bit years.
During this time, the new and legacy (existing) uniforms will be interspersed. This is to allow parents full use of legacy uniforms and maximise their existing cost outlay. As students outgrow or outwear the legacy uniform, they will be able to purchase a new uniform piece to replace it. Existing stock in our uniform shop will be replaced with the new options. No student will be penalised for continuing to wear the legacy uniform.
The expectation is by Term 1, 2028, NNPS will be fully changed over to the new uniform.
WILL THIS BE CHEAPER FOR FAMILIES?
We hope that it will be! We do not know the exact pricing until our suppliers know the designs chosen and quantities that we will be ordering. The Uniform Committee is well aware of the priority of pricing for families and are aiming to keep the uniform pricing reasonable by;
a) Reducing the sheer number of uniform items required.
b) Reviewing our suppliers and determining the best way forward for quality and price.
c) Improving the fabric to something more durable. This will prolong the life of each garment meaning a child will get more wear out the item as well as being able to be resold at the Second Hand Uniform shop or given as hand-me-downs to future students.
WHAT IS THE P&C GOING TO DO WITH THE SURPLUS STOCK OF OLD UNIFORMS?
The P&C are exploring options to avoid the legacy uniforms going to landfill. Stay tuned on this one.
WHY ARE WE STICKING WITH GREEN, YELLOW AND BLACK?
These are the school colours and can not be changed at this time.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PREVIOUS SURVEY RESULTS?
They were published in October 2024 in a 'Week Ahead' email; presented to the P&C at the November meeting and are available by request - email nnpspandc.secretary@gmail.com.
ARE THE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS GOING TO BE SURVEYED?
Yes! They will complete the survey during Term 4, Week 9, 2024.
WHY ARE WE HAVING THE SHORTS, SKORTS, TRACKPANTS EMBROIDERED? WHY NOT KEEP THEM PLAIN?
The embroidered shorts, skorts and trackpants will give a sense of belonging and pride in the school uniform. The consistency will reduce the non-uniform variations giving a smart and cohesive look across the community, plus the yellow embroidery will tie in aesthetically with the polos.
ARE WE CHANGING THE HATS, SCHOOL BAGS, ETC?
The uniform committee will take a look at the other items once the uniform is agreed upon.
WHAT ABOUT A CHECKERED SKORT IN THE SUMMER UNIFORM FABRIC?
Having skorts made in the same fabric as the girls summer tunic is very expensive so the Uniform Committee chose not to pursue it as an option.
